Our Firefighters
Chief/EMT Joseph Thomas
Chief Thomas has been with Lewisburg Fire Department since March of 2005. Chief Thomas is one of the eight full-time personnel employed by the City of Lewisburg. Thomas is a member of the department’s Dive Team, Swift Water Rescue Team, Rope Rescue Team, and Hazardous Material Decontamination Team. Chief Thomas is a certified National Registry Emergency Medical Technician, and is also certified as a Fire Inspector 1 by the National Fire Protection Agency. Chief Thomas is certified Fire Officer 4 and is a certified Fire Instructor 1 through West Virginia Public Service Training.
Assistant Chief Matt Carver
Chief Carver has been a member of the Lewisburg Fire Department since June of 1992. Chief Carver has completed numerous courses in Fire Department Leadership, Emergency Management, and Advanced Structural Firefighting. He is also certified as a Fire Inspector 1 by the National Fire Protection Agency. Chief Carver is certified Fire Officer 4 and is a certified Fire Instructor 1 through West Virginia Public Service Training.
Assistant Chief/EMT Gary Workman
Chief Workman has been a member of the Lewisburg Fire Department since November of 1995. Chief Workman is a member of the department’s Dive Team, Swift Water Rescue Team, Rope Rescue Team, and Hazardous Material Decontamination Team. Workman has completed several courses in Advanced Structural Firefighting, Fire Department Management, and Arson Investigation. Chief Workman is also a certified National Registry Emergency Medical Technician. Chief Workman is certified Fire Officer 4 and is a certified Fire Instructor 1 through West Virginia Public Service Training.

Captain/EMT Nathaniel Tucker
Captain Tucker has been a member of the Lewisburg Fire Department since September of 2006 and is one of the eight full-time members employed by the City of Lewisburg Fire Department. Captain Tucker is a member of the department’s Dive Team, Swift Water Rescue Team, Rope Rescue Team, and Hazardous Material Decontamination Team. Captain Tucker is certified as an Emergency Vehicle Technician which allows him to function as the mechanic for the department’s apparatus. Tucker is also a certified National Registry Emergency Medical Technician. Captain Tucker is certified Fire Officer 2 and is a certified Fire Instructor 1 through West Virginia Public Service Training.

Captain/Paramedic Christopher Teubert
Captain Teubert has been a member of the Lewisburg Fire department since January of 1983. Captain Teubert has completed several courses in Fire Department Leadership. Captain Teubert is a member of the department’s Swift Water Rescue Team, Rope Rescue Team, and Hazardous Materials Decontamination Team. He is also a certified National Registry Paramedic. Captain Teubert is certified Fire Officer 2.

Lieutenant Joseph Byers

Lieutenant Tincher has been with the Lewisburg Fire Department since March 2009. Tincher has completed numerous courses in Fire Department Leadership, Advanced Structural Firefighting, and Technical Rescue. He is a member of the department’s Rope Rescue Team and Hazardous Materials Decontamination Team. Tincher is also a certified National Registry Emergency Medical Technician. Lieutenant Tincher is certified Fire Officer 2 and is a certified Fire Instructor 2 through West Virginia Public Service Training.
Safety Officer/Admin John Gherman
SO Gherman has been with the Lewisburg Fire Department since Mach of 1968 and is currently the longest-serving member within the department. In addition to his position of Safety Officer, he serves as an Administrative member for the department’s Volunteer Corporation. Gherman has served in numerous roles during his tenure with the department, including the position of Assistant Chief and Vice President of the Volunteer Corporation.
Safety Officer Doug Beard
SO Beard has been a member of the Lewisburg Fire Department since June of 1980. Beard has completed numerous courses in Fire Department Leadership, Fireground Operations, and Technical Rescue.
Safety Officer/EMT Randy Chambers
SO Chambers has been a member of the Lewisburg Fire Department since October of 2004. Chambers is one of the eight full-time members employed by the City of Lewisburg. Chambers has completed several courses in Fireground Operations, Advanced Firefighting, and Technical Rescue. Chambers is a member of the department’s Swift Water Rescue Team, Rope Rescue Team, and Hazardous Material Decontamination Team. He is a certified National Registry Emergency Medical Technician. He is also Fire Officer 2 certified and a certified Fire Instructor 1 through West Virginia Public Service Training.
Admin Jim VanMetre
Mr. VanMetre joined Lewisburg Fire Department in February of 1974 and is one of the longest-serving members of the Fire Department. He currently serves as an Administrative member for the department’s Volunteer Corporation. VanMetre has served in many different capacities during his tenure with the department, including the position of Assistant Chief.
Admin Bill Turner
Mr. Turner joined the Lewisburg Fire Department in August of 1975 and currently serves as an Administrative member for the department’s Volunteer Corporation. Turner has served in many different capacities, including officer positions within the department and the role of President to the Volunteer Corporation.

Firefighter/EMT Bruce Ramsey
Firefighter Ramsey joined the Lewisburg Fire Department in June of 1989. Ramsey is one of the eight full-time members that is employed by the City of Lewisburg. He has completed several courses in Fire Department Leadership, Advanced Fire Ground Operations, and Technical Rescue. He is a member of the department’s Swift Water Rescue Team, Rope Rescue Team, and Hazardous Materials Decontamination Team. Ramsey is also a certified National Registry Emergency Medical Technician. He is also Fire Officer 2 certified.

Admin Wanda Johnson
Ms. Johnson joined the Lewisburg Fire Department in July of 1999 and currently serves as an Administrative member to the department’s Volunteer Corporation. Prior to becoming an Administrative member, Ms. Johnson successfully completed State of West Virginia Firefighter 1 requirements and served as a volunteer firefighter with us

Firefighter Wesley Williamson
Firefighter Williamson joined the Lewisburg Fire Department in March of 2012. Williamson has completed courses in Advanced Firefighting and Technical Rescue. Williamson is a member of the department’s Rope Rescue Team and Hazardous Material Decontamination Team.

Firefighter Carolyn Komar
Firefighter Komar joined the Lewisburg Fire Department in October of 2018. She successfully completed State of West Virginia Firefighter 1 requirements and continues to attend classes to advance her firefighting and technical rescue knowledge. Firefighter Komar also holds a Ph.D. and is a retired Collegiate Educator.

Firefighter Campbell joined the Lewisburg Fire Department in October of 2018. He has completed several courses in Fire Department Leadership, Advanced Firefighting, and Technical Rescue. Firefighter Campbell is a member of the department’s Rope Rescue Team and Hazardous Material Decontamination Team. He is Fire Officer 2 certified.

Firefighter Harry Ernst
Firefighter Ernst joined the Lewisburg Fire Department in January of 2016. He successfully completed State of West Virginia Firefighter 1 requirements. Ernst is a handy guy to have around and helps us with building and property maintenance in addition to firefighting.

Firefighter Cunningham joined the Lewisburg Fire Department in July of 2017. He has completed several courses in Fire Department Leadership, Advanced Firefighting, and Technical Rescue. Cunningham is a member of the department’s Rope Rescue Team and Hazardous Material Decontamination. Cunningham is also a certified National Registry Emergency Medical Technician. He is Fire Officer 2 certified and also a certified Fire Instructor 1 through West Virginia Public Service Training.

Firefighter/Admin Karen Willis
Firefighter Willis joined the Lewisburg Fire Department in July of 2003. She serves as both an Administrative member to the department’s Volunteer Corporation and Firefighter. Willis successfully completed State of West Virginia Firefighter 1 requirements and continues to complete classes in Advanced Firefighting and Technical Rescue.

Firefighter/Paramedic Marissa Dunbar
Firefighter Dunbar joined the Lewisburg Fire Department in August of 2017 and is one of the eight full-time members employed by the City of Lewisburg. In addition to performing Fire and EMS tasks, Dunbar serves as the Chief’s Aid. She has completed several classes in Fire Department Leadership, Advanced Firefighting, and Technical Rescue. She is a member of the department’s Dive Team, Swift Water Rescue Team, Rope Rescue Team, and Hazardous Material Decontamination Team. Dunbar is a certified National Registry Paramedic. She is Fire Officer 2 certified and a certified Fire Instructor 1 through West Virginia Public Service Training.
